TE’A at Pace University
It’s hard to sustain an authentic feeling of hope all by ourselves. It’s important to have positive, uplifting, collective experiences to remind us that together, we really can cross the barriers of fear, and misunderstanding that divide us on issues of race, religion, and culture. Fort Hood is a tragedy on so many levels. Not only does it reinforce what Walter Wink calls the myth of redemption by violence, it ratchets up our fears and closes our minds. I pray for the families of those who lost their lives and for open minds and compassionate hearts for the rest of us.
